I am in between jobs and I need a laptop for some free lance work till May. I plan on buying a Mac or building a desktop after May, so I am really just looking to buy a PC laptop under $500 to use in the mean time. (Afterwards I'm going to give it to my parents, they will just be using it for basic internet and general purpose business type things). Are there any brands I should avoid or any models that will absolutely not be good for these programs?

Any help would be gladly appreciated. I'm not sure about which laptops would work best if you don't have a desktop that can handle editing (or at all), but I know that CC has an issue with the latest Nvidia drivers since early December so if you do go for a laptop with an nvidia card, you're gonna want to rollback the driver a couple times and maintain it at that level til Nvidia/Microsoft/Adobe or whoever is responsible fixes the issues. I have an ASUS Q550LF from 2014 and use Premiere Pro CC. I generally have to convert to a lower quality video to edit before replacing the footage with my HQ footage because the laptop simply doesn't have the CPU to work with Premiere Pro at full res. Before Premiere, I tried out Lightworks, which my computer handled a lot better but I frankly really disliked the interface. DaVinci Resolve is another (free) editing software that might run better on a laptop than CC. If you're a mac person, get a Macbook Pro with 16GB of ram make sure it has a video card (not intel graphics). CC is highly dependent upon the video card-especially if you're shooting in 4k.
