This one comes without the speed/cadence sensor, but if you buy it separately will it work with this one? I'm not sure after looking at Garmin's website how the different versions of the 305 work. Has this bundled for $261. $180 + about $40 for the sensor, plus tax and shipping wouldn't be far off of $261 anyway.

Ascent is Mac Only (as all the good software is ) just kidding - but once you go mac you wont want to go back. Great software - Really great. They have a port over to the Iphone now as well. I have been working in the software development biz for many years and just have a respect for well written and supported code - That is my only connection to the company I run the 705 but does not the 305 also capture gps points?
Thinking yes. EDIT to ADD - I found ascent from a tip on these very forums - Thanks RBR! Had CS200, now have Garmin 305 (w/out cadence) for following reasons: 1) can switch it from either of my road bikes and mtb no problems as it is using GPS to calculate speed/distance.
With Polar you have to buy multiple sensors. 2) Reliability appears to be better with Garmin (just what I have read) 3) Garmin gives you a wealth of info well beyond just speed, heart rate, distance traveled including elevation, gradient, etc. 4) better software for Garmin. 5) rudimentary mapping functions, tie it in to mapmyride, etc. For Woolbury. My HR readings started to go wacko. Changed out the battery in the chest strap, all fine now.
